Key Idea:
Optimism is a skill that can be cultivated.
Pessimistic explanatory style: all my relationships end because I’m unlovable (permanent, personal, general)
Optimistic: this (specific) relationship ended due to differences in values (external), but I can learn from the experience, grow, and find someone new (temporary).
Other interesting notes:
Label your thoughts into two categories: useful and not useful. Discard the not useful.
Becoming a more optimistic person (probably) leads to better health and mental health, higher motivation, longer lifespan, lower stress levels.
If you have repeated negative experiences, you may develop “learned helplessness”. Overcoming it requires consistent effort, and seeking professional guidance is recommended.
