A recurring dream..
“I’m incredibly busy right now, given pressures at work and home and new technology that follows me everywhere, and emails, voice mail, global competition, I feel as busy as I ever have. Sometimes I feel over-committed. I don’t tell others but every now and then my life feels a little bit out of control. But I’m working on very unique and special challenges right now and I think the worst of this will be over in 4 or 5 months. And after that I’m going to take 2 or 3 weeks and get organized, spend time with the family and begin my new healthy life program, and after that everything is going to be different and it will not be crazy anymore.”
On the shortness of life
It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.
Life is long enough, and a sufficiently generous amount has been given to us for the highest achievements if it were all well invested.
But when it is wasted in heedless luxury and spent on no good activity, we are forced at last by death’s final constraint to realize that it has passed away before we knew it was passing.
So it is: we are not given a short life but we make it short, and we are not ill-supplied but wasteful of it…
Life is long if you know how to use it.
Valuing your time
No one is going to value you more than you value yourself. Set a high personal hourly rate, and stick to it. Factor your time into every decision.
You should be too busy to ‘do coffee,’ while still keeping an uncluttered calendar.
A busy calendar and a busy mind will destroy your ability to do great things in this world. If you want to do great things—whether you’re a musician or entrepreneur or investor—you need free time and a free mind.
The day that turns your life around
1 – I’ve had it! Never again! Disgust is a negative emotion, but very powerful.
If you can add an act to your disgust, it helps.
2 – List of decisions – could inspire your next 5 or 10 years.
3 – Desire – triggered by: song, movie, book, experience, enemy, friend.
Welcome all experiences, you never know which one will turn everything on.
The same wall that keeps out disappointment keeps out happiness.
4 – I’ll do it or die. Resolve – Promise yourself you will never give up.
Daily reminder, for the rest of my life
Don’t work too much; say what you think; (find/)follow your purpose; love; be at peace.
To minimize regret, keep this alive in your mind.
